Wow! This is great. I wish my mom taught me to speak more Hungarian. My grandparents were from Nagy Perkatai, Hungary before moving to Canada in 1903, then to California, U.S. in 1924. Now I have alot of family in the U.S. and Canada, I don't know my family in Hungary but if your out there drop me a line. My grandparents are Istvan Gust Kiss Jr. and Rosalie Boldis, they had 11 children so I know our family is big. Thanks.........

Traditional Rumanian chauvinism and xenophobia have since compelled hundreds of thousands of Germans, Jews, and Hungarians to leave their homeland, bringing about a sharp drop in the percentage of German, Jewish, and Hungarian minorities to the Rumanian majority. Such turn of events would be to the liking of Ion Antonescu, whose spirit seems to roam Rumania's political establishment these days. Indeed, the fascist dictator and "Marshal" has been rehabilitated by Rumanian Parliament; streets in Rumanian towns have recently been renamed after him. With his statue erected in Slobozia, it was for the first time in post-war history that a war criminal and mass murderer should have been honored with a monument in a "democracy". This happened October 22, 1993. with the assistance of Rumanian government officials and members of parliament.

What an absolutely fantastic site this is. I have been researching my Hoff family history for about 12 years now and have found some very interesting things about Hungary on this site. My Great grandfather, Michael and Gr. Grandmother,Sophia and their son, John George, my grandfather, came from Austria/Hungary, I am told. I remember my grandfather speaking of Hungary when I was young. I believe he came from a town called Nagybecskerek. Unfortunately, as it is with all young people, the origin of my family was not important. Now that I am in my 50's and have grandkids of my own, it is very important to me to find out what I can about our heritage to pass on to them and my younger sisters and their children. Also, I am in the process of starting my own business, an authentic German/Hungarian Restaurant, complete with violins and mandolins playing the great Hungarian music. I can remember the meals my Great Grandmother made and want to include them on the menus. I want this restaurant to have the REAL food of Hungary and Germany but am having a hard time finding authentic, old country recipes. Gr. Grandmother used a pinch here and a handful there, so I am lost. I am really interested in your cookbook. What a marvelous idea. Not only is it giving me authentic recipes, but it has given me back long forgotten memories of when I was a child and the foods we ate which were so delicious. Keep up the great work you're doing. God Bless You!!!

Good work, Kinga! I'm glad to be able to find so many Hungarian websites...
I like Hungary very much. I first discovered this wonderful culture for myself
when I stayed in a Hungarian village called Rajka for a few days. One day I heard
a strange singing and I went to see who it's coming from, and then I saw that swarm
of Hungarian girls, clad in that beautiful national costume and dancing in a long line, holding the
shoulders of the one in front of them, singing a song in this lovely Hungarian language. It was so charming
I'll never forget it. Since that I try to learn as much about Hungary as I can.

I really stumbled across this page by accident and what little I have seen is great. My parents were hungarian, came to America in 1907 and 1910 (I happen to be an old lady) and all the children were born in America. I was the
youngest and by the time I came along my mother was tired and so I did not learn to read or write hungarian, tho we
had to speak hungarian in our home. The names I have been researching are Babicsak, Lencses, Bucs, Suranyi, Kupan. If
anyone is familiar with any of those names I would dearly love to hear from you.
I had never heard the name Kinga before but now I read many who say that is their name. It catches the eye and ear and
I do like it. Thank you for this great web site, I will be back. Marlo

Hi, Kinga!
Just thought that I'd check back in with you. You continue to do a great job with your web page. You may remember that the last time that I wrote, I was going to donate a kidney to my husband. The operation was 6 months ago today and we are both doing well. He took my Hungarian kidney, not my Polish kidney (since I'm half Polish and half Hungarian). Doctors told me that they were going to take the right kidney. I called that my Polish one (Nerka). Come to find out, I guess that I didn't hear correctly and they actually told me they were taking the left kidney - Vese! What matters is that we are both well.
A question for you or one of the visitors to your site...where can I purchase a Hungarian ethnic outfit - embroidered blouse and fancy skirt? We have heritage days at work and it would be nice to promote my Hungarian background.

I am an American born to Hungarian parents that moved to the USA after WWII. In the past, I have always been proud to be Hungaian. I live in Europe now for work and am traveling extensively. I visited Hungary for the first time this year and had the worst traveling experience of my life. We were booked in a nice hotel near Balaton and 3 hours after checking in were kicked out by the owner who said he had "special" guests that were coming in earlier than expected. So after arguing with the owners about leaving, my pregnant wife and I left in the pouring rain in search of another hotel (not that one can be easily found at 9:00 at night during high tourist season in Balaton!) Dear Kinga!
I came across your homepage by chance and I found it plain wonderful! Actually I was moved to tears, as 12 years ago I fled Romania with my family and received enormous help from many Hungarians during my 1-year stay in Budapest. I will never forget the friendly people I met there. From time to time I go back and visit and I feel proud about the way things change. As I keep telling people who ask me about Hungary: " It is the new Switzerland of Europe with the most warm-hearted persons I've ever met".
Please continue updating your homepage, I'd just love to have the recipe for almas palacsinta (apple pancakes):-)))

Thank you,Kinga and Eva, for your great Hungarian site. The
recipes in it remind me of my grandma's wonderful cooking

I miss so much now. I am going to send them to my dad and

Greetings Kinga:
I wish I could remember some Hungarian as I understand that
I spoke it before I spoke English but have forgotten it all,
unfortunately. My grandparents came from somewhere in
Hungary about 1900, near the Czechoslovakian border, I
believe, but I wish I could find out exactly where. If
you check out my homepage, you will find all the information
that I know about my Hungarian heritage. Keep up the good
work and the beautiful site you have built!
